Shiatsu is Japanese for “finger pressure;” it originated in China thousands of years ago. A Shiatsu massage improves the flow of the vital force and energy contained within the body overall well-being.
Shiatsu or acupressure is a type of alternative-medicine in which pressure is applied to the body on specific points and along 12 main meridians also known as pathways. The pressure can be applied by finger, palm, elbow, foot, and involve stretches, usually for a short period of time. A single point might be pressed or specific meridian worked on to address a specific aliment or complaint.
Anxiety, depression, muscle pain, stress are just a few of the issues that someone would visit a Shiatsu practitioner. At the moment there is no scientific evidence proving that acupressure can treat any diseases. However some studies suggest that Shiatsu can be effective in aiding in the recovery from certain health problems. It’s no wonder that Shiatsu is a popular holistic therapy.
Shiatsu is performed with the client clothed, usually just wearing something loose and comfortable such sweat pants and a t-shirt. The session usually begins with the client lying on the floor on a mat or sheet. There is little or no risk in receiving a Shiatsu massage.
